Alloy C276 (Hastelloy® C-276) / 2.4819 / UNS N10276

Alloy C276 (Hastelloy® C-276) is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten (Ni-Cr-Mo-W) alloy widely regarded as one of the most versatile corrosion-resistant alloys for severe service. It is designed for excellent performance in both oxidizing and reducing environments, across a broad temperature range, and in process streams where corrosion mechanisms can change over time.

The alloy offers outstanding resistance to localized corrosion (pitting and crevice corrosion) and strong resistance to stress corrosion cracking. C276 is also known for its reliability in aggressive media such as hot, contaminated mineral acids and environments containing oxidizing salts (for example ferric and cupric chlorides). Because of this balance, it is frequently chosen for critical chemical processing, pollution control and offshore applications where conventional stainless steels or less-alloyed nickel grades can be vulnerable.

Alloy C276 is also designated as Werkstoff 2.4819 and UNS N10276. Steelinox B.V. supplies this grade in multiple product forms such as round bar, forgings, plates, custom-cut plate and tubes. Certification is available according to EN 10204 / 3.1.

Applications

Alloy C276 is widely used where aggressive acids, chlorides, oxidizing salts or mixed process streams make corrosion control challenging. Typical applications include:

  • Chemical industry: heat exchangers, valves, piping systems, pipeline linings, mixers and agitator components in hot contaminated organic or inorganic environments.
  • Acid handling and process equipment: components exposed to strong mineral acids and mixed acids, especially where localized corrosion resistance is required.
  • Pollution control systems: scrubbers, absorbers and ducting parts exposed to corrosive condensates and variable process chemistry.
  • Offshore and marine service: corrosion-critical components exposed to chlorides and aggressive process fluids.
  • Waste treatment: parts used in harsh waste processing environments where oxidizing/reducing conditions can alternate.
  • Pressure equipment: pressure components, vessels and related parts where reliable corrosion resistance and traceability are required.

FAQ – Alloy C276

What environments is Alloy C276 suited for?

Alloy C276 is suited for severe corrosive environments including hot contaminated mineral acids, chloride-containing media and mixed chemical streams. It offers strong resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking in many aggressive conditions, and performs well in both oxidizing and reducing environments across a wide temperature range.

How does C276 compare to Alloy C22?

Both alloys provide outstanding corrosion resistance, but they are often selected for slightly different priorities. Alloy C22 is frequently preferred for very strong performance in oxidizing environments and mixed-acid systems, while C276 is widely proven and highly versatile in many reducing and mixed-acid applications. Selection should be based on the actual service medium (including oxidizers, chlorides and temperature) and any applicable standard.

Is Alloy C276 resistant to pitting and crevice corrosion?

Yes. The combination of molybdenum and tungsten provides excellent resistance to localized corrosion mechanisms such as pitting and crevice attack, especially in chloride-containing and acid/halide environments. Surface condition and design details (e.g., tight crevices) still matter for critical applications.

Is Alloy C276 weldable?

Yes. Alloy C276 can be welded using suitable filler materials and qualified procedures. When correct fabrication practices are followed, it shows good resistance to weld-related corrosion issues. Post-weld heat treatment is usually not required for corrosion performance, but project specifications should be followed where applicable.

Which product forms and sizes are available?

Steelinox B.V. supplies Hastelloy® C276 / Alloy C276 (2.4819 / UNS N10276) in round bar, forging, plates, custom-cut plate and tube. Round bar is typically available from 6 mm to 330 mm, with other dimensions available on request.

Do you supply tubes, flanges and fittings in C276?

Yes, depending on specification, tubes and piping-related products can be supplied on request. Typical availability includes seamless and welded tubes, plus flanges and fittings to ASTM/ASME or EN standards. When requesting a quote, specify the required standard, size range and wall thickness (or schedule).

What certification is supplied?

Material can be supplied with an EN 10204 / 3.1 inspection certificate. The certificate confirms chemical analysis, mechanical test results (where applicable) and the delivered condition, supporting traceability for critical chemical processing and pressure equipment applications.

Can you supply precision bar or machined parts?

Yes. We can supply centerless ground bar and machined components to customer drawings. This is common for shafts, fasteners and high-precision parts. Provide drawings or detailed requirements (diameter, tolerance, straightness and surface finish) when requesting a quotation.
