EN 1.4980 is a heat-resistant austenitic stainless steel, internationally known as A286 (UNS S66286 / X5NiCrTi 26-15), developed for components exposed to elevated temperatures where a combination of oxidation resistance, mechanical strength and long-term structural stability is required. The grade is widely used for parts subjected to continuous or cyclic thermal loading and is often specified when conventional corrosion-resistant stainless steels do not provide sufficient high-temperature strength.
Unlike standard stainless grades primarily chosen for corrosion resistance at ambient temperature, 1.4980 is engineered to retain strength and dimensional stability in high-temperature service. Its alloying concept supports oxidation resistance while enabling improved elevated-temperature strength, including creep and stress rupture performance within defined ranges (depending on standard, product form and delivery condition). For this reason, the service temperature, atmosphere and mechanical loading should be considered during material selection.
Steelinox B.V. supplies 1.4980 / A286 in several product forms such as round bar, hexagon bar and plates. Where required, additional inspections or project-specific testing can be arranged. Chemical composition and mechanical properties are defined by the applicable product standard and are confirmed on the EN 10204 / 3.1 inspection certificate supplied with the delivery.

1.4980 is a heat-resistant austenitic stainless steel, also known as A286 or UNS S66286 (X5NiCrTi 26-15). It is selected for components exposed to elevated temperatures where oxidation resistance and mechanical stability are required.
1.4980 is commonly used for parts operating at elevated temperatures in thermal processing and high-temperature equipment. Typical applications include furnace components, fixtures, heat treatment tooling, exhaust-related parts and high-temperature fasteners. Final suitability depends on service temperature, atmosphere and loading conditions.
High-temperature and creep-related properties may be required in certain standards or projects, but they are not universally declared for every delivery. If you need elevated-temperature strength or creep data, specify the temperature range, design basis and test requirements when requesting a quote. Any agreed test results are documented on the EN 10204 / 3.1 certificate.
Chemical limits depend on the applicable standard and may vary by product form and intended use. To avoid incorrect assumptions across different specifications, the exact composition should always be taken from the EN 10204 / 3.1 certificate for the supplied batch.
Steelinox B.V. supplies W.Nr. 1.4980 (A286 / UNS S66286) in round bar, hexagon bar and plates. Availability depends on the required standard, dimensions, surface condition and inspection requirements.
Machining is generally feasible with appropriate tooling and parameters for heat-resistant austenitic steels. Centerless grinding can be supplied on request for precision shafts or components. Provide tolerance and surface finish requirements to ensure the correct processing route.
For accurate quoting, specify the product form (round, hexagon, plate), dimensions, applicable standard, delivery condition, tolerance class, surface finish and certification requirements. For high-temperature service, also indicate the intended service temperature range and atmosphere to support correct material selection.
